Inviting all Coos County citizens to recognize and celebrate the “75th anniversary of one of the world’s most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Come meet Human Rights Advocates of Coos County members at the Coos Bay Library to get involved in being the change that you want to see in our county!

“The Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 and sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.  Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.

“A year-long initiative focusing on universality, progress and engagement, will culminate in a high-level event in December 2023, which will announce global pledges and ideas for a vision for the future of human rights.” https://www.un.org/en/observances/human-rights-day

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights empowers us all – especially in rural America. Coos county residents need to stand up for our own rights and those of others. We can take action in our daily lives – to uphold the rights that protect us and our families and thereby promote the kinship of all human beings.

The Human Rights Advocates of Coos County was established in 1998 by a group of courageous community members as a non-profit organization serving Coos County to promote equal rights & dignity for all through education & advocacy. Our annual education programs include: Dr. Martin Luther Jr. King’s Birthday Celebration in January; the Season for Non Violence from January 30 through April 4th; Cesar Chavez’s Birthday Celebration in March; Pinwheels for Peace School Peace and Art project in September; and an educational event for Human Rights Day on December 10th.
